Sal e Brasa is bringing the fire to Westheimer Road. According to a recently filed permit, the Brazilian steakhouse’s third Texas opening is expected to open in the Uptown Houston / Galleria area at 6006 Westheimer.
Although the permit further details that construction on the new Sal e Brasa is planned for a September start, according to the Houston Business Journal, the building that was once there has already been gutted, and a “coming soon” sign is now posted on a construction fence surrounding the former eatery.
The space was once home to Chacho’s, which quietly shuttered earlier this year after decades of service.
According to the permit, construction is slated to wrap up in late November. If all goes well with permitting and the estimated $1.2 million construction project, the new Sal e Brasa should open before the end of this year.
What Now Houston briefly spoke with Sal e Brasa and Avenida Brazil, a local family-owned steakhouse that’s partnered with the brand, Executive Chef Vanderlei Bernardi. Bernardi confirmed the opening, and the team shared additional details.
“Sal e Brasa is a proud, family-owned and operated concept. Our core mission is to provide every guest with an exceptional dining experience by pairing premium, high-quality cuts of meat and incredibly fresh ingredients with genuine hospitality—all at an approachable, affordable price,” the Sal e Brasa team shared.
“Following the incredible response and success we’ve experienced at our Woodlands location, expanding further into the Houston market felt like the natural next step. We are thrilled to bring our authentic dining experience to even more guests in the greater Houston area.”
Sal e Brasa, meaning “Salt and Fire,” originated in the 1980s when four friends from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, combined their passion for churrasco and traditional gaucho hospitality. The chain launched its first location in 1993 in São José do Rio Preto, Brazil. Now embarking on another Texas opening, the brand found the perfect home in the former Chaco’s lot.
“Finding the right home was key, and this location checked every single box,” the team shared.
“It’s a prime, highly accessible spot that perfectly aligns with our operational needs and provides the ideal stage to showcase our unique, affordable Brazilian steakhouse concept.”
The brand expanded significantly in Brazil before making its American debut in Texas in spring 2025. There are now 12 Sal e Brasa locations in Brazil and two in Texas.
