Octane Coffee’s original location since 2003, at 1009 Marietta St. NW, has closed for good. A source with first-hand knowledge of the permanent shutter confirmed the news Wednesday with What Now Atlanta (WNA) saying the coffee shop’s “lease was up early next year, and given what the pandemic has done to the food retail business for the foreseeable future,” it didn’t make sense to renew.

It was the last remaining location for the once-flourishing brand that was acquired by Revelator Coffee as part of an expansion effort by the Alabama-headquartered coffee roaster and house.

Josh Owen, president at Revelator Coffee, on Wednesday, declined to comment when reached by WNA. Owen and his team acquired Octane Coffee from its founders Tony and Diane Riffel four years ago. Tony, a stakeholder in Revelator up until August 2019, is now focused on Pancake Social which has a location in Ponce City Market and an outpost coming soon to Pinewood Forest.

Revelator has in recent years closed many of its Atlanta storefronts which include one-off concepts like Hazel Jane’s which is expected to bid adieu this weekend. Mourning Dove, which replaced Corso Coffee in Buckhead, shuttered two years ago, and the company’s Woodruff Arts Center and Tech Village locations closed earlier this year, among others.
