Ponce City Market dining and entertainment venue will not open June 3 as planned, is pushing shows back again.

City Winery won’t be opening June 3 in the Old Fourth Ward as planned.

“Due to further unavoidable construction delays, we’ve been told the Certificate of Occupancy will be delayed at least one week,” a spokesperson told What Now Atlanta in an email Friday.

“We’re monitoring the construction site daily, so we can open as soon as it’s ready. Also, we’d like to give a special thanks to the City of Atlanta for their help and assistance.”

But this isn’t the first time the forthcoming Ponce City Market dining and entertainment venue prematurely announced a concrete grand opening and sold tickets to scheduled concerts.

City Winery originally planned on an April debut when the venue put too much faith in the City of Atlanta permitting process, a common complaint of restaurateurs and retailers opening brick-and-mortars in the ATL.

All shows and events before June 12 will be rescheduled at City Winery for a later date or relocated in Atlanta:

  • Peter Wolf & The Midnight Travelers – 6.3
  • 10,000 Maniacs – 6.4
  • Karen Briggs with Karen Bryant – 6.5
  • Matthew Sweet – 6.6
  • Robby Krieger – 6.9
  • Shawn Mullens with John Driskell Hopkins – 6.10
  • Wasabassco Burlesque – 6.11

Updates for subsequent shows will be announced on Facebook and Twitter as well as directly communicated to ticketholders via email. All current ticketholders for shows affected by the delay will receive two house seats to a non-sold out City Winery Atlanta show of their choosing and a $50 City Winery gift card.

As for the new opening date, which “shouldn’t be much more than a week” delayed, City Winery has learned its lesson and doesn’t “want to promise an opening date at this time.”
