Plans this week were filed to build the 20-story tower from the ground-up more than two years after the project was announced.

North Point Hospitality Group is moving forward with plans to construct a new Hampton Inn & Suites from the ground-up in Midtown.

The commercial real estate development firm this week filed a permit application with City of Atlanta for the 168,246-square-foot project.

North Point first sought approval for the new 20-story Hampton Inn & Suites in February 2015, according to the Midtown Alliance website.

The land where the tower will be built, at 1231 West Peachtree Street NW near the High Museum of Art, was cleared mid-2016 including the demolition of a brick-building constructed in the 1980s.

Designed by Lindsay Pope Brayfield Clifford & Associates, the new Midtown hotel will be situated across the street from AMLI Arts Center.
