Plans filed Tuesday for downtown coffee shop.

Caribou Coffee has plans to open a downtown store in the same building as an existing location of the specialty coffee and espresso retailer.

Atlanta-based Portman Holdings, a real estate development, investment and management company, submitted a building permit application to City of Atlanta Tuesday to convert space in the SunTrust Plaza (one of Portman’s buildings) into the coffee shop, at 303 Peachtree St.

Caribou already has a location inside the SunTrust building in the garden food court. The new coffee shop will open in the building’s lobby near Portman Holdings’ offices, a manager at the downtown Caribou told What Now Atlanta (WNA) in a telephone interview Tuesday.

The existing location will remain open, he said.

An estimated $115,000 will be spent converting the 450-square-foot space into a Caribou Coffee, according to the permit application.
