Permit filed suggests Midtown landmark will receive hotel and restaurant lounge as part of its renovation.
“The Castle,” an architectural landmark at 87 15th Street, is undergoing renovations.
Mike Latham, a New York industrial artist and architect who purchased the property with a partner in August 2010 for a reported $951,000, is overseeing the remodeling of the long-vacant Midtown landmark.
Last week, Latham filed a permit with City of Atlanta to add a 1,000-square-foot “rear addition” to the building, Creative Loafing first reported in its Gravy Train column.
The addition, which will consist of a “hotel and restaurant lounge,” along with renovations to the existing interior of the building and an elevator, will cost an estimated $250,000, according to the permit.
Mark Latham, owner of The Castle, told WABE after first purchasing the project he was considering opening a restaurant and small hotel in The Castle (via Midtown Patch).
