A Vietnamese Restaurant and Bar Is Moving Into One of Portland’s Most Iconic Waterfront Spaces
Cay Bar & Grill, a new Vietnamese restaurant and bar operated by Khoa Tran, is set to open later this summer at 309 S Montgomery Street in Portland, taking over the former McCormick & Schmick’s Harborside space in the RiverPlace neighborhood along the Willamette River waterfront. An August or September opening is being targeted. Cay Bar & Grill has been building anticipation on social media, with the brand teasing the Portland opening with a post that read “Something exciting is coming to Portland.” The concept combines Vietnamese food with a full bar in a space that, if the kitchen and drink program live up to the setting, could quickly become one of the most talked-about openings of the fall. The address is one of the most recognizable in downtown Portland. The old Harborside location of McCormick & Schmick’s sat at the edge of the Willamette for decades, offering sweeping river views from what is arguably one of the most scenic dining perches in the city. Its closure left a gap that a Vietnamese concept with a full bar program is now stepping in to fill.
